Privacy
We don't know who you are, and we don't keep the plates you check. The only exception is if you ask us for MOT reminders.
When you check a plate
- Your plate is sent to DVSA's MOT History service to get the car's public MOT records.
- We turn those records into a result and show it to you.
- To stay fast when it's busy, we keep a scrambled copy of the result for up to 24 hours. It isn't linked to you.
On your device
Your last three checks, the mileage you pick and your home check answers are saved in this browser only, so you can find them again. We never see them. Clearing your browser data removes them.
When you share a result
The link holds the plate in scrambled form. Anyone you send it to can open that result. A link for friends hides most of the plate.
If you ask for MOT reminders
- We keep your email address, your plate and its MOT due date. We use them only to send your reminders.
- Nothing is sent until you tap the link in our first email. If you don't, we delete your details after 7 days.
- About three weeks after each due date we look the plate up again, to find next year's date.
- Every reminder has a link to stop. When you stop, we delete your email and plate straight away.
- If we can't find a new MOT for about three months, we stop and delete them too.
- Your details are stored by Upstash and the emails are sent by Resend. They act for us and can't use your data for anything else.
We rely on your consent. You can withdraw it at any time with the stop link, or by emailing us.
What we don't do
- No accounts or passwords.
- No adverts or tracking cookies.
- We never sell or share data.
Visitor numbers
We count visits with Plausible Analytics. It uses no cookies and collects no personal data. It tells us how many checks were made, not who made them.
Cookies
We don't use cookies, so there's nothing to accept or turn off. If that ever changes, we'll ask you first and update this page.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, it briefly handles technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and stop abuse.
